Jerry Simmons wrote this and it seems the most fitting eulogy for him:

Very few people really and fully realize just how easy it is to change someone's life. This is so because:
1. they have doubts about their own energies and effectiveness, and
2. the changes are often not immediate (nudges), come to flower later, and
3. the changes often appear to be so subtle that the extensiveness of the changes are missed; can be seen a decade later.

Also, the viewer doesn't originally know what would have happened had the changes not occurred.
